Tucked away in the misty heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, our estate is more than a destination, it is a sanctuary for the soul. At its center stands a quaint country chapel, offering a timeless space for intimate celebrations and quiet reflection. The property is cradled by a thick indigenous forest, officially acknowledged as a conservancy and a healing forest. This ancient woodland, alive with the songs of rare birds and the whisper of the breeze, provides a natural cathedral for restoration and peace. Guests are invited to stay in our three quaint thatched cottages, where the rustic charm of the landscape meets a deep, quiet comfort. Here, the land is a collaborator in your journey, offering a space where nature’s own rhythms provide the ultimate healing escape.

Our Cottages
Delightfully comfortable, Crab Apple’s AA Superior Cottages are set on the edge of the Kilgobbin Forest and the Dargle Valley Nature Reserve. Retreat to one of our two thatched, self-catering cottages furnished with every comfort, including a fireplace to keep you cosy. ​Each cottage has a spacious, open plan living area leads onto a sundeck. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed and there is an antique cast iron Victorian tub and shower in the en-suite bathroom. A wooden ladder from the living area leads up to a loft with two single beds. It is ideal for children. The kitchen is equipped with a two plate hob, fridge, and microwave.

Our Chapel
Quintessentially country, the Crab Apple Chapel has large feature windows allowing the warm glowing sun and natural surrounds of forest and farmlands to form a glorious backdrop. Multi-denominational, your own pastor will be welcomed and the chapel seats up to 138 people on church pews. The chapel is set in a picturesque garden with rolling lawns. This has appealed to several bridal couples for their post-ceremony reception. It’s ideal for those looking for a less formal event, a place in which they can express their own style whether it be high tea or a picnic. This space is lovely for socialising and taking photos. There is no additional charge for the use of the grounds, however its use is weather dependant.

The hire of the Crab Apple Chapel includes: the pews, lectern, two candelabra, 8 wall sconces for candles, a single stand alone candle stand, an electronic keyboard, a full sound system including the speakers, 2 cordless microphones and a red carpet laid down the aisle. The florist chosen for the occasion is welcome to decorate the chapel with appropriate flowers and ribbons. We require a non-refundable deposit to secure the date and the balance of the fee is to be paid prior to the date of your occasion.
